About

The story behind the screenshot tool, and the field tech who built it.

The maker

"Half of every ticket is a picture of something on a screen. I wanted Print Screen to just do the right thing, and to leave nothing I did not ask for behind."

I'm Steve the Killer. Six years as a full-stack developer, eight years as a field technician across several companies, and now I work on an MSP's internal AI engineering team, so building the tool I need comes as naturally to me as fixing the problem in front of me.

A tech's day runs on screenshots: the error a user swears they saw, the setting that has to be changed, the step a client needs to follow. The built-in tools handled the easy part and left the rest to a second app: redaction that was really a blur, captures scaled to the wrong size, and no quick way to turn the steps into a short video.

So I built KillerShot to take the picture the moment the key is pressed, put it on the clipboard pixel for pixel, and keep the markup, redaction and recording one shortcut away.

The app

KillerShot is a native Windows screenshot and screen recording tool. It lives in the notification area, answers Print Screen, and opens an editor when you want one. No account, no subscription, no ads and no telemetry.

It is part of the Killer Tools family, so it shares their themes, window chrome, keyboard conventions and languages, and it works with KillerMCP so an AI agent can take a screenshot for you. KillerShot is free software under the GPL-3.0 license.

KillerShot is still in development, and public downloads are not available yet. Suggestions are welcome on the GitHub issues page once the repository opens. For the deep technical details, see the Technical page.
